Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: blug 2006-01-26
Body: Fiddled with new headphones & USB audio under ALSA. Failed miserably to find out how to set a new system-wide default audio card. Hacked together scripts to control both KsCD and XMMS from the same command using xmmsctrl and dcop.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: blug 2005-02-17
Body: Experimented with distributed Fyre rendering with Kevin, Chris, Jeremy & others. Image rendering works fine and gets a nice performance boost from clustering, but animations don't seem to distribute at all for some reason. Discussed MUD server design versus IRC server design and alternative window managers.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: blug 2005-01-27
Body: Hacked on setting up a reverse port forward from my laptop to www.knavery.net so that folks could watch a live webcam of HS with camsource(though mainly as an experiment). SSH would only listen on localhost for myself and Rich (tested against multiple Linux and OpenBSD versions), but eventually gave up and redirected the port on the external interface to loopback with redir, which worked nicely.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: blug 2005-01-20
Body: Mucked around with the pwc driver (of binary module/Nemosoft flamewar fame) for the Logitech Quickcam Notebook Pro and got it running with nicely with camsource. Demonstrated that you could in fact see individual hairs on Rich's arm. Was squicked. Mucked with configs.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: blug 2004-12-30
Body: Experimented with cutter, a TCP/IP connection cutter for Linux firewalls that's designed to play nice with NAT. Updated a bunch of machines, check up on the status of 802.11n's progress through the standards process, and suggested a deadpool for IE's market share when they finally do a major update.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: BLUG 2004-11-04
Body: Arrived at Sole to discover a vigilante mob forming up to lynch the latest worm vector. Logged in and kicked them off. Evangelized Mew, watched ipw2100 hork my laptop up again and fiddled with Ruby code some more.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: BLUG 2004-10-21
Body: Dragged the first tables into place with Susan and then took off for Black & Read. Came back with a thoroughly abused wallet and much good music, proceeded to show off abcde's encoding abilities & groused with Kevin Fenzi about Grip's more than slightly eccentric behavior. Pointed out that Broomfield is getting a Fry's to much delight.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: BLUG 2004-10-07
Body: Mucked with SuSE packages for Xorg, decided to leave it for tomorrow. Worked on installing VRML browsers and ran into dependency and hard-coded directory location annoyances. Grabbed the Q3A demo for Linux. Started fiddling with my tpb (Thinkpad buttons daemon) config - that eventually led to using xte (from the xautomation package at: http://hoopajoo.net/projects/xautomation.html) to generate X key events from tpb and thence to using xmodmap to bind X events to the Forward, Backward, and Fn buttons on my laptop. Finally (vaguely) understand X the outline of key handling. Ia Shub-Niggurath, Ia Cthulhu!

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: BLUG 2004-09-16
Body: Discussed the IETF Working Group for SSH-style opportunistic encryption, poked around with Tiny CA after discussing Certificate Authority management tools for OpenVPN with James and tried to ride heard on bandwidth hogs. Wondershaper is cool, but I'm going to have to right some scripts to squelch individual ips. Tried to get the new Hacking Society minutes setup working properly.

Chapter Name: golden
Meeting: 20030108
Body: Fiddled with doing kernel compiles out of /dev/shm, tried out xchat instead of ChatZilla, went to see very cool equipment at Ed's lab. The accompanying discussion was more fun than the actual HS meeting (though that was pretty cool too).

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: 20020502
Body:

Did most of an installation of SuSE 8.0 to the Microdrive for the net4501 before being forcibly reminded that it needs to reboot after the base system is installed. May be able to workaround this by installing into the Soekris and continuing the install from NFS instead of CD. Will be most impressed if YaST2 can handle that. Participated in the spontaneous formation of a consortium ("Hacking Society Wireless Mafia"?) to attempt to get our mitts on a vast pile of Ricochet GS modems for freenet/freenet backbone purposes. We missed the auction end to get 446 of them, but that may be just as well...

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: 20020425
Body:

Swapped CompactFlash cards with Matt until we could get a network boot and determine what ComBIOS thought the C/H/S geometry (Hah!) of the flash was. So much for "no LBA required". Discussed WML (no, not that one, the one that Sucks Less) with Chris and then when it was clear that no one else was likely to show up we all adjourned to Ajuua! for sustenance. Some discussion of doing a 802.11b + IPSEC blug presentation occurred.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: 20020418
Body:

Discussed doing key-signing at the next Hacking Society. Continued the long and contorted process of figuring out boot problems with a net4501. PXE net booting and mounting the tree over NFS everything works fine, installing it to the microdrive (from PCMCIA or over NFS) produces a boot process that a) outputs garbage to the serial console and then closes it and b) happily ignores the DHCPOFFERs it receives in response to its requests but boots successfully enough to attempt DHCP. Identical filesystems. If this were SCSI I'd already be looking for a goat to sacrifice but I'm not sure what Compact Flash requires, a marmot?

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: 20020404
Body:

Tracked the TkRat/Pine PGP incompatibility to MIME multipart/encrypted (RFC1847) being generated by default by TkRat (and apparently without a config option to turn off) and left strictly alone by pgp4pine and pgpenvelope (Pine PGP filters) on the assumption that they don't know how to handle it. Investigated Courier-IMAP's mimegpg, discovered that it appears to require the whole dang package (which starts talking about linuxconf in a vaguely threatening way not far into INSTALL), and decided to reinvent the wheel. Started work on a hack to break the MIME out into its respective chunks and use the control data in the first one to call GPG appropriately.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: 20020328
Body:

Got far too hyper off of a couple of Sole's triple shot larges before the meeting started, resurrected RDBrowse from CVS cold storage and swapped in that part of my memory preparatory to adding rdoc support for a new release, started a badblocks scan of a five year old PCMCIA hard drive (which will hopefully finish before Kevin's OpenOffice build...), and finally decided on an authentication and authorization scheme for a semi-public 802.11b node. Tried to pin the blame for the existence of CORE and BURN on Jeremy.

Date: 2002-03-21 23:00:00
Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: 20020321
Body:

Did sneaker-net RR balancing of 802.11b cards in an attempt to figure out why the Orinocos worked fine on some laptops and not others, plowed into the 76K of Getopt::Declare documentation (first thoughts: cool, well designed, intimidatingly well documented), looked on in horror as Ed confessed his liking for C-shell, and tweaked some metadata editing code for the "get rid of the filing cabinets" project. Displayed the results of someone else's medieval Venetian steganography.

Chapter Name: blug
Meeting: 20020228
Body:

Worked on getting other end of the richochet modem link working. Star mode seems to work fine.

discussed meeting location and wireless security and other topics
